10. John Cena to make MCU debut
Starting off at number ten is a potential MCU Debut from 16x WWE world champion, John Cena. Recent social media posts from the wrestler have circulated the possibility of his involvement in Deadpool & Wolverine. A now popular photo of Deadpool and Wolverine from the set was posted on Cena's social media recently without context or a caption sending fans into a spiral of speculation. Previously appearing as Peacemaker in the DC Universe, could we see the wrestler make the move to the MCU?
9. Jennifer Garner returning as Elektra
Rumours of Jennifer Garner's return to the MCU as Elektra have been circulating since the announcement of Deadpool & Wolverine. Addressing the rumours in an exclusive interview with Collider, Garner was hesitant to provide a clear statement on her potential inclusion in the upcoming film, however fans are still convinced of her superhero cameo.
8. Loki connection
The Disney+ series Loki ended with the God of Mischief becoming the protector of the multiverse. With that being said, if Deadpool & Wolverine sees to the MCU theme of time travelling, will an appearance of Tom Hiddleston's Loki be inevitable?
7. A Blade reunion
Marvel's human-vampire hybrid warrior, Blade is set to reappear on screens in a 2025 reboot starring Mahershala Ali. With Ryan Reynolds making an appearance in the original 2004 film Blade: Trinity, fans are pondering the possibility of Deadpool & Wolverine being Blade’s official re-introduction into the MCU.
6. Scarlet Witch resurrected
Despite the character's devastating demise in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, word has been circulating that Scarlet Witch's spirit could potentially take on an earthly body choosing to alter the world into one of only mutants. This would definitely prove to be a complication that Deadpool and Wolverine would endeavour to stop.
5. X-23 back for more
Logan actress Dafne Keen has been rumoured for some time to reprise her 2017 role alongside Jackman's Wolverine once again. The cameo of her character Laura Kinney (aka X-23) would mark the first time the mutant has been seen on-screen in over 7 years. With its potential collection of on-screen reunions, Deadpool & Wolverine is beginning to stack up against the colossal cameo count seen in Avengers: Endgame.
4. Multiple Wolverines
Aligning with the time-travelling theory, fans are contemplating the idea of Deadpool potentially going back in time to try and find the perfect Logan (Wolverine), with buzz generating around Taron Edgerton, Daniel Radcliffe and Karl Urban being cast in “secret roles”. Could this mean a multiverse with numerous sets of claws? Marvel is no stranger to the concept of numerous iterations of a single character, as seen in the 2021 release of Spider-Man: No Way Home with all three Spider-Men joining each other on screen.
3. Taylor Swift is Dazzler
Fan theories began spreading like wildfire after Taylor Swift was spotted at an NFL game with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, with many hoping this could hint at her inclusion in Deadpool & Wolverine as Dazzler, a singing mutant from the Marvel Comics. At this year’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas Director Shawn Levy was bombarded with questions regarding Swift’s potential involvement in the film to which he responded, “I can't even believe that you would dare ask me a question that you know I can't answer. All of America knows I can't answer that. But I will say, as I said earlier here at CinemaCon, the proliferation of rumours about who is and isn't in this movie, it's fabulous, because no one will ever know the truth until July 26.”
2. Mighty movie trolling
It’s no secret that at the core of the Wade Wilson’s sense of humour is the trolling of all things pop culture. The highly anticipated third installment will be the first entry in the Deadpool series being produced after Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox also marking Deadpool’s official initiation into the MCU. With this in mind, many are speculating that the Merc with a Mouth will not hold back on poking fun at the Disney acquisition and the mastermind behind Marvel, Kevin Feige.
1. The X-Men
Coming in at number one is perhaps the biggest and most plausible rumour concerning Deadpool & Wolverine – the resurgence of the original X-Men cast on the big screen. It has already been confirmed that Colossus, Yukio and Negasonic Teenage Warhead will be returning for the sequel, however word is that James Marsden's Cyclopes, Famke Janssen's Jean Grey and Halle Berry's Storm are to join the already star-studded cast. This reunion would be the first time the characters have been seen on-screen together in 18 years.
With only a few months left until we can officially distinguish fact from fiction, fans should brace themselves for the electrifying and adrenaline-packed journey that Deadpool & Wolverine is sure to bring to audiences.
Prepare for three times the sass when Deadpool & Wolverine hits cinemas July 25.
