Year after year the Oscars is stacked with some of the best talent the film industry has to offer – both in front of the lens and behind it – and 2021 is no exception. If they aren't already, you can expect this years’ nominees to soon become household names, owing to their stellar work last year. With an impressive list of films in the pipeline, we have the rundown on where you will see our favourite Academy Awards nominees next in 2021!

Chloe Zhao – Nomadland

Chloe Zhao is already the talk of Hollywood off the back of her critically acclaimed film Nomadland. After winning the Oscar for Best Director and Best Picture, while also being nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay, Zhao has emerged as one of the best directors in the business. Luckily, you won’t have to wait too much longer for her next project, as she is currently putting the final touches on one of Marvel’s biggest upcoming films, Eternals. Focusing on a brand new team of immortal superheros protecting the galaxy from intergalactic threats, the film is being described as Marvel’s most ambitious yet. Featuring an all-star cast led by Angelina Jolie, Eternals is certain to be Marvel’s next breakout hit.

Marvel’s Eternals hits Australian cinemas on October 28th, 2021.

Viola Davis – Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom

No stranger to the Academy Awards, Viola Davis was nominated once again this year, this time in the Best Actress category for her show-stopping role in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. This was Davis’ fourth Oscar nomination, winning once in 2016 for Fences. Showing her incredible range once again, Davis will next be seen reprising her role as Amanda Waller in The Suicide Squad. Described as a reboot of the 2016 film, this version will be helmed by acclaimed director James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) and will feature an ensemble cast including Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena and Sylvester Stallone. The film promises to be the most fun you will have at the cinema in 2021, with Gunn specifically choosing “loser, B-grade supervillains” because “there’s an innate tragic element to supervillains who aren’t even good at being bad.”

The Suicide Squad will arrive in Australian theatres on August 5th, 2021.

Leslie Odom Jr. – One Night in Miami

Leslie Odom Jr. has been making waves on Broadway for years thanks to his role in the mega-hit Hamilton but has made the transition into Hollywood in recent years. Nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Sam Cooke in One Night In Miami, Odom Jr. will be back on our screens in September in the highly-anticipated The Many Saints of Newark. The film is a prequel to The Sopranos, widely considered to be one of the greatest TV series of all time and will focus on the early days of Tony Soprano.

The Many Saints of Newark is scheduled for release on September 23rd, 2021.
