Prepare to be spellbound: Wicked takes flight from stage to screen.

After nearly a decade in the making, Wicked is set to take the step from stage to screen. This long-awaited film adaptation of the award-winning musical is set to premiere later this year, starring Cynthia Erivo (The Color Purple) and Ariana Grande (Don’t Look Up) as beloved characters Elphaba and Glinda.

The story is set to be delivered in two instalments, promising an expansive and detailed exploration of the enchanting world of Oz. Set many years before Dorothy's arrival, Wicked reimagines the Land of Oz from the perspective of Elphaba and her unlikely friendship with Glinda, celebrating the transformative power of magic and friendship. The film explores the backstory of the green-skinned Elphaba, who is destined to become the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, the future Good Witch of the North, from their early days as adversaries to their evolution into close friends. Their journey through adulthood is marked by political turmoil and a complicated love triangle involving the charming school hunk Fiyero, played by Jonathan Bailey, known for his iconic role as Anthony Bridgerton in Netflix’s Bridgerton.

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande have both received enthusiastic endorsements from the original Broadway stars, Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, adding to the excitement surrounding their performances. Joining Erivo and Grande in this musical spectacle is Jeff Goldblum, who will bring his unique flair to the role of the Wizard, while Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh, known for her role in Everything Everywhere All at Once, will make her musical debut as Madame Morrible, the headmistress of Crage Hall at Shiz University.

The ensemble cast also includes Ethan Slater as the munchkin Boq, known for his role in SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical. Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage also joins the cast as Dr. Dillamond, a goat and professor of history at Shiz University, rounding out a stellar lineup for this highly anticipated film.

With its star-studded cast and beloved story, the Wicked is poised to captivate audiences and delight fans of the musical and newcomers alike as this enchanting tale unfolds on the big screen.

Prepare to defy gravity when Wicked hits cinemas on November 28.
