Director of Kingsman suits up for another spy-tastic adventure with Argylle.

Argylle is an upcoming spy action comedy from the mind of Matthew Vaughn, the director of Kingsman and Kick-Ass. Vaughn has described the razor-witted, reality-bending, globe-encircling spy thriller, as an ode to 1980s action thrillers like Die Hard and Lethal Weapon. According to Screen Rant, Vaughn cast Henry Cavill as the titular spy because he believes the actor "was born to play Bond," and he wanted to cast him before the actual 007 franchise could. Vaughn describes Cavill's titular spy as a "larger-than-life action hero with a wink," though the film is very different from the Kingsman franchise. Similarly, Argylle is intended to serve as the start of a franchise consisting of at least a trilogy.

Facing off with Cavill in the trailer is popstar Dua Lipa, who has ditched her trademark brunette hairstyle and transformed into a blonde bombshell to tackle her latest Hollywood role. The singer has recently set her sights on acting, following her small role as Mermaid Barbie in the record-breaking smash hit of 2023, Barbie. While we don't know the details of Lipa's role in Argylle, we do know that the star is working on the score and title track for the film.

Also joining the cast is Bryce Dallas Howard as the main character Elly Conway, the reclusive author of a series of best-selling espionage novels, whose idea of bliss is a night at home with her computer and her cat Alfie. But when the plots of Elly’s fictional books – which centre on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate – begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organisation, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past.

Lipa, Howard and Cavill are also joined by Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, John Cena, Ariana DeBose and Samuel L. Jackson.

Argylle is set to release in cinemas on February 1 2024. Find out more here.
