New Zealand Had Its Best Week In Three Years With 431,000 Admissions.
New Zealand’s weekly admissions record has been broken yet again, with a total of 431,000 Kiwis hitting the big screen from Thursday last week to Wednesday this week, the best result cinema has seen in three years. Thor: Love and Thunder was the main contributor to the week’s success, however Minions: The Rise of Gru, Elvis, Top Gun: Maverick and Jurassic World: Dominion all helped drive the stellar result.
The fourth film in the Thor franchise, Thor: Love and Thunder, has delivered the biggest opening for any film this year, with 181,000 admissions since opening last Wednesday, and over $3 million at the New Zealand box office.
The film’s weekend opening was 44% bigger at the box office than 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, even without taking into account the contribution of its early opening day on Wednesday.
Thor: Love and Thunder has so far attracted a predominantly young audience with 69% falling within the P14-39 demographic, reinforcing the notion that cinema is never short of big blockbuster titles that attract the hard-to-reach youth audiences.
Thor’s fourth solo story as Marvel’s god of thunder is said to be the most hilarious and heart-warming yet and continues to follow Thor’s long journey of self-actualisation. Thor: Love and Thunder has ticked all the boxes. It is no surprise audiences have been flocking in to be met with this captivating mix of comedy, epic action and love.
